or questions.
Pilates and Physical Therapy
The Pilates philosophy is often incorporated into the PT treatments at the practice. Pilates is perfectly suited for treatment of posture-related and back complaints. It can help correct habitual movement patterns and tendencies (such as those which occur as a result of pain or injury, or through a person’s daily activities) and can restore the balance between antagonistic muscle groups. Over the last decade, Pilates has become a recognized and accepted form of exercise therapy used by physical therapists in the US and the UK.
An Extensive Pilates Education
Beginning July 2004, Todd Baker participated in an intensive training
to become a Pilates matwork instructor in the United Kingdom. He completed
his education in September 2005. The training is given by The
Scott Studio, an internationally recognized Pilates training center
and certified by The Pilates Foundation, an international professional
organization. The content of the training consists of both theoretical
and practical portions. Students must complete extensive written assignments
concerning various Pilates concepts, two client case studies, and an end
thesis. The practical aspect of the course consists of 450 contact hours
divided between observation, teaching clients and active participation
in Pilates lessons by the student himself. The student is required to
be able to perform the entire Pilates repertoire. The Scott Studio training
is generally recognized as the most demanding Pilates education in existence
in the UK at this moment.
